I have no idea how schools are in UK are, but here in the US, I think one would be hard-pressed to find dedicated teachers such as your parents. Egads...how many teachers have the time/energy/ENERGY!!!! to dedicate themselves to teaching, then go home and further instruct some more?

Where was the "burnout" factor so prevalent amongst today's teachers?

Perhaps it isn't so much a lack of dedication to education. Times have changed so much. Families nowdays might consist of a grandparent or aunt or uncle raising a child...let alone single parents. The word "family" seems to have been redefined of late, to consist of two people, or more. Period.

Unfortunately, God and family have both taken a backseat to interests, hobbies, and (gasp!) even watching telelvision.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but your parents were treasures. I also remember my mother spending a great deal of time after supper, helping my older brother with spelling and math. Parents like ours are hard to find these days, I fear.....Katyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06558961417235143567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19191002.post-11286034345073622162011-01-14T17:49:37.934+00:002011-01-14T17:49:37.934+00:00How sad to "captured" wearing a school b...How sad to "captured" wearing a school beret and blazer in Paris!
I remember the pencil incident well and how we had to be careful when using a rubber not to get bits of it lodged in the ornamental grooves of the table.Bunnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19191002.post-14557657109523648132011-01-13T19:52:02.778+00:002011-01-13T19:52:02.778+00:00We never had anything like that amount of input. Dad liked maths and went to night classes to learn more- he would have loved computing.

We were just expected to do what we had to do.Allanahhttp://allanahk.posterous.com/noreply@blogger.com
