Wrestling with Rowan

There's a good post here on the Guardian's Comment is Free blog, on how Anglicans who don't happen to be the Archbishop of Canterbury might deal with what the Archbishop himself comes out with. Read and comment away while my brain recovers from a morning of wrestling with the doctrine of Salvation.

I shall return when my brain is working again...

    From the article:
"We do not differ over essential matters such as the nature of Jesus or the mechanics of salvation."

Well, maybe not today. But another day, someone's bound to come up with "atonement or else"-ism...

"We do not differ over sexual ethics, or the interpretation of Scripture."

Well, maybe not today. I'm sure there are those who would question, if not interpretation, then whole understanding of Scripture between TEC and Nigeria.

Rather, we differ over the proper response to a belief we hold in common."

Now that, I think, may be accurate, if ++Rowan really does think same-sex relationships "reflect the love of God in a way comparable to marriage". It would be even better if he were to have said "identical to heterosexual" in the relevant point.
Certainly the whole business of the Covenant is only one, blinkered, view amongst many options.
