Vain Hope?

This is me, exhorting the representatives of the Episcopal Church in Argyll and The Isles on the merits of Web 2.0 technology. I may be flogging a dead horse, but it's still laughing at the moment.

Update: I'm indebted to Robin B for this link - obviously I'm not alone in my near-despair.

  3. This is a comment from the same room from an iPhone. I almost never look at blogs. Perhaps I will change.

"...flogging a dead horse..."? Have you read the book of the same name by the Sage of Bute? Solutions are therein!
Btw - "sphinx", from the Greek "to strangle"; same root as "sphincter", oddly enough - and perhaps applicable to McCarron International Airport!!

  6. I've just done a keynote in Torquay to the country's ICT Advisors and feel just the same way as you do. Thankfully, one or two of them are already blogging nice things but when you don't have that immediate feedback (and even with it) you worry about the ones that'll never even speak back to you to let you know where your arguments might need refining. Tis the law of sod.

  7. Na I think with more effort from a bunch of us we could get the Episcopal Church fully involved in Web 2.0. Not just the main SEC website and a few blog but I mean full church support.

  9. I must say this collection of responses cheers me up - especially as I thought my laptop had suffered a heart attack with all the excitement! It wouldn't start up today, and then did but couldn't log on to the wifi, and then stayed black and dead - until I opened my bag at home and found it was merely ... sleeping! Now this all sounds a bit like Tabitha - was that the lassie's name? ;-)

And yes - I felt the face on the screen wouldn't mind the exposure

  10. Maybe the problem isn't the web 2.0 bit. Maybe the problem is trying to get a room full of church people to agree on anything!!! LOL

Keep the faith. We've started using skype for meetings instead of driving 300 miles. (I found the environmental argument helped) The meeting now takes an hour rather than a day. Our new training course is being written on Buzzword. Our new youth forum has a ning site and a blog.

Practical solutions for specific problems seemed to be the tipping point for our little team.
