Origami prayers

We did origami today instead of hearing a sermon. We made boats of which Rupert the Bear might have been proud and floated them in a font full of reeds. We thought of Moses and his nameless mother, and of the spark in our own lives. It was crazy and it worked.

I wrote about it here.

Weren't Moses' parents called Amram and Jochebed? Which one was which I can't say.

Do you know, when I read Chris' post, I thought 'are Moses' parents named anywhere else in scripture?' They certainly weren't in yesterdays passage.

Now to go hunting -- where is the reference??

abf you are quite right. Exodus 6.20. That's what I get for skimming genealogies and being bad with names.

I once put that question to all seven Bishops. Only Brechin (I think) eventually got the answer. They also had a hard time naming all the angels actually mentioned in the Bible. Which was the one they missed? Answers below, please.

An easy one for the lone watches of the night: what is odd about the book of Esther?
And while we're at it: what is the more usual form of the name of the Persian king Ahasuerus?
    G'night.

  11. I can answer that one, abf: it has no mention of God in it.

  12. Being unfamiliar with Rupert the Bear, I had to look that one up!

What a delightful idea...origami boats. (I am searching a "proper" canoe, so this seems so profound!)

I love your poem. The sheer act of placing a wee baby in a basket of reeds always struck a chord of horror within me....but, we do know that God is quite more than capable of protecting and preserving those He has called to His service.

Di, what on earth are you doing awake at that ungodly hour?!! One virtual Mars bar is on its way. But what about the second question?

Here's a third - entirely unrelated to anything that has gone before. What is the nominal connection shared by Naples, Novgorod & Carthage?

  14. Ahasuerus - not a scooby. But the three cities are linked by being new

    How did we get here?

  15. Ah, my friend wikipedia to the rescue - he was Xerxes! The things you learn from bloggers!

I am running out of Mars bars. Enough, already!

As to how (or why) we got here, that is too deep a metaphysical question for me.
