A fiery Christmas

Having recovered from yesterday, I feel moved to share with anyone still sad enough to boot up their bloglines on Boxing Day a glimpse of the culinary splendour at The Blethers yesterday. I was a tad concerned that Metaxa might not burn as spectacularly as the usual cooking brandy (rather like Larkin's "washing sherry") but behold: a veritable conflagration. It tasted amazing too.

You can find the original of this, and several other photos of over-indulgence, at Christmas 2006 from edublogger. I was too busy being a domestic goddess again to do much snapping - unless the snapping at said Edublogger for getting in the way counts. But harmony reigns at The Blethers this morning, and I've almost managed to clean the spatters of turkey gravy from the interior of the fridge (don't ask). Now I intend to drink some coffee and indulge in an old-fashioned pastime.

I'm going to read a book.

  1. Which book?
I have skimmed Cowpoer's 'Task'; I plan to indulge myself in John Clare, leaving the hubub behind and go for long, wintry walks in Kilmacolm/Bridge-of-Weir (with camera).
    Merry Christmas!

  2. Chris,

Having just about got over my 'Internet Huff' because of Argyll & Bute's use of I-Gear I'm reading (for the first time) 'Grace Notes' - excellent novel.

If you like conspiracy theories though - A&B cancelled/postoned In-Service on blogging just about the same time as I first complained about Blogger being blocked.

    Coincidence? Yeh! ;-)

    Merry Christmas.

  3. The book in question was Robert Harris' latest, "Imperium", a novel about Cicero. I've been reading it in the run-up to Christmas, but kept being interrupted/falling asleep. I've also been dipping into one of my pressies, the wonderful new biography of R.S.Thomas, "The man who went into the West", by Byron Rogers. I shall perhaps post more on this when I've read it.
